Function over Form, series, acrylic on canvas, 24"x36", 2022, class exhibition

Function over Form, depicts anonymous, grotesque female bodies that explore body dysmorphia among women of different shapes and sizes. The cool tones of each figure’s flesh, as well as the environment each is in, are intense and surreal as the bright reds and oranges contrast against the fleshy pinks and blue-greens. Each figure holds, or sensors, herself in her unique way and has exaggerated features like asymmetrical breasts, skeletal silhouettes, or pronounced hip dips. All three paintings display a distorted perception of self and how these imperfections would look if they were exaggerated. It is important to note that although each figure has these imperfections, they do not define who they are. Women do not need symmetrical breasts, a skinny body, or a perfect hourglass figure to have a beautiful, functioning body.
